This story begins when I want to check the new reference global climate state, the annual average Ts between 1991-2020. I found myself in a big trouble. I calculate myself using ERA5 T2m and got a result 287.53K,but the AI recommends a result of 287.96K. I want to know which one is right and checked among lots of and lots of websites, and found one thing, that the whole scientific building of global warming is based on anomalies, anomalies relative to 1850-1900, or relative to 1981-2010, or relative to 1991-2020, etc. Or, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, ..., warmest month since a specific year. All charts, boxes, and figures are anomalies.
Why don't we give the global annual or monthly average temperature first, and then tell its anomaly or rank relative to a specific reference? Or give the reference state first?
