There are those who maintain that their consciousness has left their bodies during life, and maintain by deduction that death is simply a relatively seamless transition between having a physical tool, the body, and having a presence in a field of information which has its own form of communication and perception. That discorporate experience is one I have experienced and was distinctly different that a dream in that I could perceive the physical world as if I had eyes though I was not utilizing my body's physical eyes. If this is all true as I "represent" it, then Freud is wrong. But it cannot be represented "objectively." Like everything else, whether in the world of relativity or in the quantum universe, perception is subjective and we are all rapidly vacillating between particle and wave. I suggest that in death we resemble waves. Whether we ARE waves after "life" is another matter. [Pun on "matter" intended. :)]

Death does not and cannot constitute the continuance of ego in the same but another form. I have recently been reading on the results of dementia, which leaves nothing behind. Thereby the person effectively dies before their body, but the sense of loss here is the disappearance of all intelligence, memory and identity. Unless there are technigues or technical processes whereby human beings are caught at some point in their lives, prior to dementia, and that point is preserved, how can the person live on in any suitable form?

If the answer is given, god, an answer that exists prior to cognition as it appears all-purpose, can god get dementia too? When god dies, does everything of us die too?

I think you must first understand the point of Freud's idea. When he says that you can't represent your own death he means that the scenario you imagine of your own death (the moment you vanish from existence) is a scenario responding to your own desires. For example: imagine your own death. Imagine the funeral, who will be crying for you, what will be remembered from you, what will happen to your possessions, your loved ones, etc. As you can see, this scenario where you no longer exists is created by your own desire (for, as obvious as it sounds, you can't actually know who will cry, what will happen to your things, etc.).

On the other hand, you must not confuse the death of a character in a fiction vs. your own dead (imagined, anyway). When the character dies, the scenario of its death responds to the screenwriter, not to the desire of the character. This is a different situation from Luke Perry: the actor died, and his character died, but the funerals have no relationship between them, if we think so, we will be confusing a character with the actor, it would be like we think an actor is a murderer because his character killed someone in a movie.
