I recently came across that when the pixel count exceed 6 megapixel, the quality of image is no more proportional to camera pixel. I doubt it and I am little confused about this statement. Can anybody explain me in detail.
And one more thing then I save a colour image as .jpeg its bit depth is 24 its because 8 bit image and 8*3=24. But then I save the same image in PNG formate its bit depth change to 32 why is that?

This is a good question with many possible answers, depending on the application (end usage) requirements, camera lens quality and type of imaging system.
Type of Imaging system: It is well-known that vector images are superior to raster images. In the case of a vector image, it is possible zoom in on an image without distortion. This is explained by the fact that vector image are constructed from points and lines, not from pixels. For a raster image, typically pixels are represented as tiny squares, which become visible during zooming. The distortion in zooming in on a raster image is less evident in higher resolution images (images with higher pixel counts).

End usage and lens quality: Many of my own application depend on images obtained from a high-end digital stereo zoom microscope with image resolutions ranging from 0.5 MP to 8 MP. Using a Zeiss digital microscope with a very high quality lens system, I usually set my image resolution as low as possible because of the fast consumption of computer memory by large numbers of high resolution images. I find that 0.5 MP are entirely adequate for my needs.
This refers to the ability of the human eye. You can't really tell a difference if its more than 6 megapixel. Also it's hard to display. A normal full-hd display with 1920*1080 resolution can display about 2 megapixel.
But: Images with higher pixel count do have more information. Just because a human can't see it doesn't mean a computer can't process it. So if you want to do some image processing (like zooming), the higher resolution might come in handy.
For the difference between .jpg and .png: next to R, G, B .png has an alpha channel to encode the transparency. So you get 8 bit more. .jpg cant save images with transparency.
That would depend on the kind of image you have. Pixels increase either depending on the settings that you have on your camera, or the color you have in them. From a photographer's perspective, I can say that the more pixels can actually define an image more, though it's not always useful in cases like fast movements.
