My reader response:
Indeed, the way that can be spoken of, the way that can be described and defined, is not the constant way. The moment we attempt to put into words the ineffable and the sublime, we find that our language falls short. The transcendent and the infinite cannot be captured by the finite and imperfect instruments of human speech.
I come to agree with the wise Lao Tzu: the constant way, the way that truly is, cannot be spoken of in a straightforward and literal manner. It can only be intimated, suggested, and alluded to, through the use of paradox, irony, and subtle implication. The truth, in its fullness and richness, remains always just beyond the horizon of language, waiting to be intuited and apprehended by the heart and the soul, rather than the mere intellect.
As I ponder the mysteries of the universe and the nature of the Divine, I am reminded of the limitations of human language.
