Anyone can tell me what is the difference of heterojunction materials and doping materials? If one nanomaterial is made up of alternate layers of phase A and phase B, is that a heterojunction materials or not?

A heterojunction (HJ) is the interface of two or more materials (e.g. semiconductors) to produce a composite material, taking advantage of the semiconductivity characteristics of the materials in the junction ("n" or "p" type). Commonly, the HJ is promoted to enhance charge carrier transportation in a device. In contrast, doping or also called "chemical modification", consists in the incorporation of impurities into a material, in order to increase its conducting properties or sometimes extend its light absorption to less energetic values for photochemical, photoelectrochemical and photovoltaic processes. Depending on the kind of material, the impurity can occupy different positions to induce the charge compensation.
