Hello, I am recording LFP from the rat mPFC and I also use electrical stimulation in my study (0.2mA, biphasic, 100 usec per phase). the electrodes I use are 6ch MEA electrodes (with the reference shorted to ground).
Sometimes, when I stimulate the Brain I see a prolonged artifact in the shape of a ripple or a baseline offset that decays exponentially. Any ideas of how can I eliminate these artifacts, and what might be their source?

Does your stimulation device share the commong path with the signal? If one of the stimulation electrodes has a direct, galvanic connection to the recording ground, the long artifacts could be seen. Ideally, the stimulation device should be battery operated and its device should be connected only to the stimulation electrodes, and there should be no connection to the recording ground. In some cases, the blanking of the stimulus could help (however, the amplifier should have a possibility for blanking, or sample-and-hold circuit).
