I can recommend one free software package which is getting very popular for social science research. The software is SmartPLS, which is specifically useful for researchers who work with latent variables (constructs). One major limitation is that it is generally recommended for exploratory kind of research, not for confirmatory research. Here is the website: http://www.smartpls.de/

Hello, a free and easy option to use is Epidat. It is a statistical software designed to use aggregated data in field epidemiology and public health.

In fact, one can perfom statistical data analysis using Excel (I suppose that a person without statistical background won´t use tricky and complicated methods).
There are a lot of websites with information and tutorials on how to do this.
This one is good: http://www.real-statistics.com. It provides a practical guide on how to do statistical analysis in Excel plus free statistics software to be added to Excel.
