I am doing comparative analysis for phase one (quantitative phase) and phase three (Intervention phase). Before that I needed to compare whether the population of both phases (phase one - 1983; phase three- 493) are directly comparable or not, for that I have conducted a two-proportion Z-test and computed the Z-statistic which is approx. 2.387, suggesting significant results. Could you please provide your comments regarding this?
The Z-statistic was found to be close to 2. 387 shows that the deviation between the population proportions is actually quite large. This suggests that the populations are not directly comparable. This creates a doubt towards the representativeness of your samples specific with regard to the large difference in your populations sizes between Phase One and Phase Three. If the samples are not comparable, it may be difficult to infer about trends or changes which can be possible with comparable sample.
Have you tried controlling the variable or doing stratified analysis?
