I'm a PhD student working on a mixed-methods research project for my thesis, with the first phase being quantitative and the second being qualitative. Then, as intended, I'll undertake the intervention phase as the third phase. However, the submission date is approaching, and I will not be able to complete the third phase. Now I have finished both phases and now in the fourth year. My issue is whether I may make changes to my thesis and remove the third phase while remaining in the first and second phases, which is allowed for PhD students.
Ask your PhD adviser and/or your committee (depending on where you are doing this). Responses from people from different universities (and different countries) on ResearchGate may not be appropriate.
I agree with Daniel Wright , i.e. you need to speaker to your promoter/supervisor/professor to advise you accordingly.
I also agree with Daniel Wright. Your advisor and committee members will be able to respond to this question batter. However, I also feel it depends on what you hope to accomplish with your dissertation. Will your work be relevant/complete without the third phase? A friend of mine did a similar study. However, her conducting the third phase depended on the results she obtained from the first and second phases. When the result didn't pan out, she ended the study with the second phase. She has since defended her dissertation without the third phase. So, it all depends on your research question and what you hope to accomplish with your study.
