For an exposition we want to present chlorophyll extracts, what can we do to avoid the photobleaching and keep their green color as long as possible, knowing that the light climate of the exposition can hardly be modified ? is there a solvant or a chemical which could be recommended ?
From my experience in the lab, chlorophyll in chromatography paper lasts for about 2 weeks without regulating any ambient factors. If you will consider presenting them this way, maybe you can employ an air tight container where paper containing the pigment is encased.
Are you referjng to chlorophyll alone or chlorophyll -protein conplex...Many add Cu-porphyrin for better stability to chlorophyll..
Make sure that the extraction solvent is not acid. If you use 80% aceton as a solvent you should saturate the solvent with NaHCO3 before extraction. Keep the extract as dark as possible. Test the bleching time by repeatadly analyse the extract in a spectrophotometer.
A great thanks to Arizaldo, Anoop an Goran for their answers, I use Ethanol 100 % and Spirulina (Arthrospira) powder to get my chlorophyll extract, I saturate my solvant with MgCO3, but as my extract is very concentrate I shall add again MgCO3 after the extraction, I shall try also other salts like ZnCl2.
