Does anyone have experience with stability of pHrodo bioparticles, in particular the E.coli and S. aureus conjugates?

Manufacturer (ThermoFisher/Life Technologies/Molecular Probes) says the product is good for at least 6 months at -20C, while still lyophilized, and only 3-5 days at 4C after resuspension.  This can get expensive for our infrequent experiments, and I just can't understand chemically why the shelf life seems so low.  Why can't the particles be frozen with a suitable cryoprotectant?

Does anyone have experience stretching the recommendations?
