Specificity of peripheral retrograde tracing with AAV9 (growth plate to DRG) in mice?

We did a retrograde tracing of growth plates (right side) in mice with AAV9-tdtomato and fastblue. We collected both right and left DRG after 1 week and did a whole-mount staining. Unexpectedly, we observed tdtomato signal of a few cells in the left DRGs. I'm trying to think of reasons for how that could have happened. Does anyone have any idea?
