I recommend you check out flir.com. They make some nice and relatively inexpensive USB cams. They also provide software that helps with image capture and adjusting attributes. The cameras are also simple to interface with LabView in my experience.

Please look into CTRAX. It’s a MATLAB based module and it work’s really well with some initial tweaking.

Thank you guys for your answer. I am actually looking for program that will do the initial recording not the analysis. I have already the camera and the software to analyse the behaviour. What I don't have is a freeware which allow me to do initial recording. Does CTrax do the recording too?

You may want to consider Bonsai (https://bonsai-rx.org/docs/index.html). It is free and can do what you need (albeit with a decent learning curve).
