I was assigned to conduct a fieldwork in Malaysia related using sociolinguistics theory's framework. The focus of this research is the migration of minority communities from Indonesia to Malaysia. This study includes the languages choices by the community which believed has been evolved from language A to language Ab. Therefore, based on the above subject, what theoretical framework that can be applied to this study?
Reading Systemic Functional Linguistic(SFL) works, in particular those of MAK. Halliday and R.Hasan, would provide significant insights of theoretical value of concepts like meaning potential and register for example; though they are not necessarily related to the field work.
Is the work looking for a change or an evolution!!! Because such understanding has to do with the time scale of movement from A->B (short or long term periods). Is there a kind of isolation geographically speaking that leads to such an evolution !
