I have a Verilog-a file and would like to run it in a simulator. But, most of simulators either doesn't support .va format or the student edition doesn't include that option. Can anybody suggest me a simulator for verilog-a simulation and to get the characteristics?

Short answer: Verilog-A is for analog circuits only. To simulate Verilog-A, you need a circuit simulator (SPICE-like) with that capability.
Long answer: While standard "digital" Verilog (such as '95 and 2001) is used for digital circuits, Verilog-A is the continuous-time subset of Verilog-AMS (analog/ mixed signal). Verilog-A is essentially used to simulated analog circuits, and most of the commercial circuit simulators (such as Cadence Spectre, Synopsys HSpice, Mentor ELDO) and some open-source circuit simulator (like Qucs) accept Verilog-A blocks.
If you want to mix analog and digital blocks in your simulation, you need a mixed-signal simulator, that most of the times include a digital event-driven kernel and an analog time-driven kernel, and everything else to enable these guys to talk to each other. Again, most of the EDA vendors provide mixed-mode simulators, although I am not aware of a free simulator with the capability of simulating Verilog and Verilog-A at the same time (there may be, try googling for it).
Otherwise, choose from what you have available in your university/company. Some names to look for would be Cadence AMS Designer, Synopsys VCS AMS, Mentor Questa ADMS and Silvaco Harmony.
