"Article 51 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) (1985) mentioned that when a species' name is cited in a scientific publication for the first time, the author(s) of the scientific name and the year it was published should also be indicated (Ng 1994)".

I believe that this statement this is true for a taxonomic paper.

However, is it still applicable for a non-taxonomic paper such as ecological paper? Do we still need to elaborate the author/s or the use of a binomial name is okay?
