With permission of the tribes, would it be advised for the federal government to regulate Indian education-- perhaps by aiding in supplies, teachers, or help improving the curriculum. Each change will be first with permission from the native americans.
Before I answer completely, may I ask if you are a policy debater or just an avid researcher?
Hello Raunak, Education policy is not my specialty, nor are Native Americans, however I am concerned with the state of the native american education system. I was simply curious if anyone knows what will happen if the U.S. is able to regulate reserves better through partial jurisdiction. It seemed like a good idea to me, but after researching it, it did not seem to be a thing yet. I was wondering if anyone on researchgate might have some background on this.
I think if the person in the government had direct links with a number of different Native American communities it might be acceptable, but I do not know if it would be right. In the UK, there is the UK government and 4 devolved countries - Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. These four countries have won the right to run many aspects of their country's affairs: education, health, taxation, etc. For the UK to decide one day to 'offer support' with each of the country's systems would not be taken well. If the one doing the suggestion had direct ties with one of the countries - a Scottish minister, taught in Scotland and representing people in Scotland - it might be considered.
Short answer, I would say this is a bad idea. Long answer, there need to be heaps of conditions.
Enter your answerI am of the opinion that any assistance would be beneficial within the perimeters of each Tribal community. Some are more resourced than others, which others are lacking basic necessities. It should be up to each Sovereign nation. This should also include a stipend towards addressing the medical healthcare issues more that have greatly impacted reservations and Canadian Reserves. They are at great jeopardy with the healthcare bill at stake. This has and will filter down into the physiological issues that aren't totally being addressed in tribal communities. Thus, having a direct hit on Education. Native youth deserve more than this.
