I have a friend who is a university professor and spent several months working on a research project with a colleague, but before they had their paper written, the collaboration fell apart.
The former collaborator used a lot of the analysis my friend did and published, without including her. Because they had no written agreement, she has no resource against him.
So my question is, should research collaborators have written terms and conditions governing their work? Does anyone have a model of such an agreement or contract?

The question of whether research collaborators require written terms and conditions in governing their work. It seems to me that there are two perspectives to be considered – ethics and morals. Ethics refer to the rules of right and wrong, which researchers should be following like a code of conduct. This is an external principle source of a researcher. Morals refer to the researcher’s good or bad principle. This is an internal principle source of a researcher. Once we understand these principles, we can pass on judgment on this incident – violates ethical principles or moral integrity. This is how I provide my point of view in layman’s term.

Dealing with individuals and groups in written form is always safe for both parties, but long term understanding between institutes hinder it.
