Some of the lentiviral transfer plasmids I'm using have this short form of the CMV promoter that is 350bp instead of 589bp for the usual CMV promoter. Does this short form have a name? Immediate early? Core promoter? Only asking because of my experience with the Ef1a promoter and its short form which is called EFS, and I want to name my Addgene deposits properly :)
Also, while we are on the topic, this short CMV promoter seems to work perfectly well in neurons, whereas full-length CMV is silenced. Hot tip.

The 589ish bp promoter is usually described as the CMV immediate early enhancer-promoter. The 350 bp promoter should lack most of the enhancer, so it would probably be best described as CMV immediate early promoter. 350 base pairs is going to contain more than the "core promoter" sequences. I think a more descriptive name would only be possible if your vector information contained the construct name for the promoter.
Yep, the CMV promoter is silenced in some cell types, which can be compensated for by removing most of the enhancer region or using Ef1a promoter. Good info for neurons!
