Most of us have the experiences being invited to write or review a paper for a new online journal. It looks that it is generally much easier and quicker to publish on the new online journals. Do you think that we should focus on the well known academic journals only, or should distribute our publications in different journals for picking up different readers?

I totally agree with the opinion of Dr. Zouheir Maalej and I am doing the same to him. But care should be taken before submission not to be victim of fake journals. Online journal publication is important for the reason that it is highly accessible and free. I am the supporter of online journals with a reputable impact factor (ISI).

There are many types of online journals:
- Purely commercial ones, with a fee but without quality, which I avoid.
- Academic ones, with fee and quality, which I also avoid if I can publish without a fee.
- Other scientific ones, without a fee and with quality and high impact factor (ISI). I am part of the editorial board of two of these. And I have never published any article in any of them.

Journal selection is an important part of the publication process, and there are a number of factors to consider: audience, scope, impact, turnaround times, etc. Whether a journal is purely an online one or not is probably in itself not a factor in quality. Nowadays many journals are moving to online only. A well-known and reputable journal, online or not, will be more difficult to get your work published as there is likely more competition, especially for early career researchers (like myself), and so there is a balancing game that we need to play.
Having said that, I would be highly suspicious of any unsolicited requests to write papers for a journal. Unless you have a very well-established reputation, this isn't common practice and for me would ring bells as a predatory publisher, those publishers whose sole aim is to make money, at the expense of research quality. They feed on the 'publish or perish' culture and those who want and need to get published quickly.
