Hi. It's better to report the value of RMSEA, and say that you admit the weakness of your model. Your contribution in other aspects can more than make up the weakness. Hiding the weakness give a bad impression to reviewers, and good reviewers can easily find it. I hope if this would be some of help.

The covariance of errors between indicators can also improve the RMSA.

RMSEA is not about goodness of fit, it is an index which is about badness of fit. This normally occur due to wrong model specification. Redundancy among items could also contribute to poor RMSEA.
