Let's change this question to, "If you want to choose a VEGETABLE for cultivation in a place, what is important for you and you choose according to which criterion?"
I would expect that the first question is either "What vegetable do you want to grow?" Or "What is the environment of your garden?"
Okra and turnips are very drought tolerant. On the other hand, celery needs soil that is constantly moist. Lettuce grows well in shade but tomatoes need a lot of sun. Lettuce and cabbage can grow in soils with a lot of clay but asparagus, onions and potatoes prefer sandy soil.
This will the the same for medicinal plants. Many medicinal plants are used in gardens and gardening books can suggest what conditions would be best for the medicinal plant of choice. But if you have dry, clay soil do not try to grow medicinal plants found in the swamp--you are doomed to failure. If you garden is the limiting factor and you cannot easily change soil type, sun exposure or watering, then choose medicinal plants that grow well in your location.
But note, the amounts of secondary plant metabolites will change depending upon how you tend your garden as well. Some plants will generate more biologically active compounds if they are fertilized and well watered. Other plants make more active compounds when they are stressed. . And stress can come in different forms including herbivory and drought.
Ok. Climatic and soil conditions are important to choose a plant but imagine you have several candidates for plant and place (various area). Is there any easy and fast way to find the best plant for each place?@ Sorour Mahmoudvand
My means is a medicinal plant, but it is not important. I don't want to choose a plant for a garden. This question is for a big farm condition. I now the ecological condition of the farm, economic aspect of plant and other factors such as water requirement, soil type, etc. are criticals and secondary metabolites change in various conditions, but I looking for a way to matching best plants for each area. for example mathematical models or every other ways.
