We're currently setting up an oxide*-MBE system at the Technion. We're looking at qualitative analysis by RHEED (namely, we need a simple system), with the key tasks being monitoring crystallinity, reconstructions, and growth oscillations where applicable. My key requirements are reliability and beam stability.
I have quotes for RHEED systems from Staib and SVT.
I'd appreciate your input on the following:
Recommendations and suggestions for a manufacturer of a RHEED system (doesn't have to be from the above two).
Thoughts and input on external optics and related software for RHEED acquisition. Due to the simplicity of our requirements we'd like to keep the cost of this item reasonable.

I have worked with PLD systems equipped with RHEED either from Staib (but r12 years older version) or from the above Japanese source. They are comparable in their beam stability an reliability. I venture to say that they work beautifully for your conditions. I have been always more concerned about working in high O2 pressure, of 0.1-0.3 mbar O2.
I like better the k-space software and find a bit outdated the Staib software. But once again, i am not up to date on the actual versions of the Staib software.

We have RHEED systems from SVT in two MBE chambers: II-VI (Te, Se) and III-V (As). Both systems are working properly, software is rather simple.
Last time I checked, the k-Space™ software was an option in the purchase, and an expensive one at that. But, because you want to monitor the RHEED oscillations, you are going to need the software because it is what lets you monitor the intensity of the peaks over time.
Also, you said a simple system, but then also noted wanting to see surface reconstructions. I hope that you substrate stage has some rotation-control.
For reliability and stability, responsibility for that is on you. Mechanically isolate your pumps to the extent possible to avoid vibrating your chamber. Maybe put some buffer-blocks in the vacuum lines between your turbo and its backing pump. You know the rest on this aspect...

If you're on a budget, I don't see any reason to pay thousands for what is a relatively simple piece of software. Combined with a cheap high-quality USB webcam (Sony IMX322 or similar) and you're halfway there!
