'Please' and 'thank you' or 'thanks' have different frequencies of use in Irish English according to the contexts in which they are used; this is probably the same in Indian English. For example, 'please' and 'thank you' are used far less frequently in family discourse than in, say, service encounters. Because these words are infrequently used in family discourse, if someone were to overuse them, they could become 'marked' in some way and so might have the potential to become embarrassing or, indeed, insulting. This depends very much on the context and cannot be generalized for all occurrences of these words in Irish English.
