The US under the Republican Party has tended to push for a ceasefire and diplomatic settlement, even though this may not necessarily benefit Ukraine entirely. This is in contrast to the previous administration's approach which was more assertive in supporting Ukraine militarily and diplomatically.
A ceasefire and peace talks have begun to gain momentum following the Trump administration's initiative, although fighting on the ground is still fierce. Russia has said it is ready to negotiate without preconditions, but Ukraine is demanding a full and unconditional ceasefire as the basis for real diplomacy.
