Chlorophyll is the major photosynthetic pigment in plant system. Any sort of growth and development is dependent upon the net assimilation (photosynthates) which is influenced by several factors including chlorophyll. If other factors (like light intensity, availability of CO2 and H2O etc) are constant, photosynthesis is directly related to the chlorophyll content of the plants.
Chlorophyll is a pigment in plant system is a complex of Mg with five membered heterocycle. It catalysis the reaction involving photosynthesis involving the conversion of CO2 and H2O into carbohydrate in presence of light. The development of the plant is regulated by chlorofill contents in the plant.
Chlorophyll is an essential plant pigments. After seed germination, when seedlings have newly emerged leaves, called cotyledons, have chlorophyll. Chlorophyll started their works from seedling stage to pole stage or till ending of a plant life. It helps in photosynthesis and and plant metabolic activity. During plant growth and development if higher conc. of N and lower conc. of carbohydrates in plant body then it promotes shoot formation and vice versa promote root formation. This is universal plant pigment (Chl a) and present all plant body for their growth and development.
Chlorophyll is one of main factors contributing in photosynthesis process. It is placed in plant plastics, the green pigments. Once sunlight falls on plant leaves, photons is absorbed by chlorophyll in two photosystems, one and two which absorbs the green color of visible light spectrum at 680 and 720nm. Then chlorophyll becomes excited and then lost an electron to be received by receptors which conserving an energy then converted to ATP , the cell energy currency. Sunlight energy absorbed by chlorophyll contributes in splitting water molecule where oxygen molecule is produced. This process is light reaction of photosynthesis process that produces energy and completed by dark reaction photosynthetic synthase which contributing in all plant physiological and biochemical processes. Photosynthetic products are glucose and oxygen. The former is used by plant to synthesis carbohydrate, soluble and structural in anabolism processes. The broadline is not ended by this point but glucose is undergoing to breaking down that produces energy in form of ATP, the respiration processes. The last process is catabolism process where plant uses its products to produce energy. Thus, both metabolism and anabolism affects plant growth. In addition, production of starch and cellulose, the polysaccharide where produced by glucose units. They are contributing in cell wall synthesis. In addition, Fructose and sucrose are produced. Sucrose is stored in parcenchyma cells such as sugar beet roots. Also compatible solutes are produced to act as osmolytes unde stress. All that are contributing in plant cell division, enlargement and cell differentitation which consequently reflect on growth and development. This is a very simplest overview of chlorophyll role in plant development.
Chlorophyll is very essential in plant development .since it helps the plant to have its green colouring and also helps the plant to absorb solar light ,which therefore break water and carbon to carbohydrates and oxygen.
