Although I will probably have a lot to lose, I am seriously considering unsubscribing from ResearchGate! I believe that, on the principle of "what you don't like, someone else doesn't!", it was normal to have a debate, not, simply, just an "awareness" of a (future) "accomplished fact" !...
I'm understandably extremely disappointed by this decision, although the wording doesn't fully express how upset I am by this announcement! It's not about the decision itself, but about the attitude!
I had a look at my projects again as it was years ago since I wrote them. One was about my PhD research 'Living with Faecal Incontinence' and the other was about writing and reviewing. As I no longer write for publication and review the work by others for the journals, I had archived this as it was no longer up to date.
Although I am no longer researching, we did my original qualitative research and then I followed it up after 5 and 10 years, so although it is past, it meant a lot to me for a long time.
However, my publications will still be available for ResearchGate readers and I am always pleased when I learn that they have been read, but particularly those about my research.
I very regret about the decision to retire projects in RG. This was a good possibility to order publications by subjects, to inform the community about the progress of own long-term projects, and to get informed about the progress of projects of other researchers. - You may try to contact RG's support team at https://www.researchgate.net/contact. If many users complain, perhaps the decision will be revised. I have sent my opinion to them.
Thanks for your valuable insights, dear researchers. I would say don't "complain". Let us discuss. All researchers are here because RG is here, and RG is here because all researchers are here. These two are a continuum. And please allow me to repeat a question from my original note: "Do you have alternatives?"
Dear Rad Maythil , on one hand (from researchers perception) we, RG users make the show (i.e., without our membership, without our contributions RG would not work), but, on the other hand, we can(not) complain, RG can do what they want.
I am disappointed, of course, especially because there could be a research/questionnaire about the termination prior the decision. I did not get any question from RG, and I guess, no-one else. If I compare this issue to the long "RG-Score" story (that many of us found useless), "retirement" of projects is completely different.
This is the case when only an [OK] button appears at the end.
I received the following reply from a member of the ResearchGate Community Support concerning my expression of regrets about the retirement of projects: "While we understand your feelings regarding this decision, we are aiming to provide a better experience for researchers like yourself to showcase your work and stay up to date. To that end, we plan to release multiple features this year to make it easier to share updates, discover new research, and engage with topics. We hope you will join us as we continue to make ResearchGate a more useful tool for all researchers."
The inevitability and inequity that Balázs Székely suggests is how I feel a lot of the time - that even though we work hard to make this all possible, they can do whatever they like.
I wonder what the features are that might make it easier to share updates and discover new research that was mentioned to Dr Wolfgang R. Dick .
I perfectly understand your feelings and the logic behind them. If not, I wouldn't have posed my question at all. The die is cast. Let's us see what are the promised new features.
After the imposing of „spot light” I analyse very seriously the exit from RG! It is an imposing option with I not agreed! I cannot eliminate, anf the only solution are the exit! Not all the researchers write especially for „publicity”! I am not in these „cathegory”!...

My own project was pertaining to the creation of websites. It offered free assistance to RG researchers who want to create their own official websites. The assistance consists of free consultany in all matters related to the process -- from choosing a domain name to hosting the site, and freely designing and launching it. I had already done this for a humanitarian project in Africa. As you can readily understand, this is a kind of service I can't announce elsewhere.
I can still do something for RG friends on my own website, but it is a site visited only by a few dozens of academicians and media workers a day -- not including members of the site.
