Hello,

I have read about different Reticulitermes spp. (for example virginicus) known to be able to reproduce by parthenogenesis. Since I am highly interested in doing my own, private observations of different hymenoptera I decided to get hands on a colony of R. grassei and now I wonder if it is possible to produce offspring colonies from the one colony (contains a gynomorphe and a male and some neotenes). I know generally once the queen dies the worker reproduce partially to new neotenes or alates which then either inbreed or reproduce by thelytokous parthenogenesis but now my questions:

1) are R. grassei able to reproduce parthenogenetically female offspring?

2) In Formicidae males are produced by haploid eggs and are created partially by infertile gynomorphs or gynomorph less colonies by worker reproduction, if or how do termites produce males in colonies without fertile reproductive specimen?
