Research in translational medicine about genetic counselling inherited about Alzheimer's disease and possible therapeutic approaches to the descendants.
What do you thinking about it? Do you have any methodological idea?
I do not think if there is a convincing scientific evidence claiming that AD is hereditary. Although there are some claims. My opinion is that envorimental, social factors are to blame for the disease. In 20th century most people die from infectious diseases (viral and bacterial). now most people die from Malignant variety of cancers, cardiovascular complications caused by metabolic disorders and neurodegenerative disorders. I blame processed fast food sector, chnages in our eating behaviour, envormental changes, changing in our life style for thise NDs not our genes. Our gene pool has changed only %-0.5 in million years, however there are a lot of other changes in human world such as industrial revolution, introducing sugar, smoke, computer age, cars in our lives. Should I keep going to convince you. I believe that we humans cause most of the diseases are out there. Of course there may be some genetic manifestations or mutational changes but those are limited.
I hear you. However, I had a friend who specialized in proteomics did animal study with AD. Most of the proteins/enzymes we think that they are culprit for AD such as APP, beta amiloids, taus etc are also existing as the same concentrations even with newborn mice. So that brings the question to my mind "are we all born with AD?" then later in life some events trigger those protein accumulations in the brain that cause those diseases. Just a thought.
I do not believe the %50 genetic part at all. and what personlized and best preventive therapy you are talking about? Aricept, memantine or acetyl choline esterase inhibitors? Give me a break. Those do not even have ability delaying the progress of the disease. Believe me I know from my family. My mom used it for years no benefited at all. I agree that scientist need to study more about it. However I do not believe there preventive therapy out there.
