The Pertussis Toxin is still active long after clearing bacteria. Is this because of already intoxicated cells or does a pool of toxin exist extracellularly that intoxicates new cells? My question is really: is it possible to remove the symptoms still remaining after antibiotic treatment by blocking Pertussis Toxin entry into cells or is it too late and the only way to relieve the symptoms would be to find an inhibitor targeting intracellular active Pertussis Toxin?
