I am exploring possibility of Perfluropentanoic acid as a mobile phase modifier to have better separation in LCMS compatible mobile phase. As it is referred in many literature as surfactant category, how much would be its impact on interaction with the C8 or C18 stationary phases? I am skeptical about equlibration of column with this modifier could be the issue.
Pl. suggest.

you are doing LC/MS - right ? Then don't touch it. You'll never get rid of that stuff in your MS. Ion pair reagents and MS usually have no intersection (with a few exceptions, e.g. oligonucleotides).

As Markus suggests, if possible, please stay away from it. These types of compounds will contaminate your LC/MS system for sometime...
Also, fluorinated compounds such as Perfluropentanoic acid are generally not compatible with many of the newer Teflon membranes found in HPLC degasser modules. Contamination and even damage can result from their use.

Does the PPA modifier create problems in stabilization with columns too?
