Dear researchers,
I'm currently doing a study regarding on antiviral mechanism of selected plant using metabolomic approach.
Plant extract (fruit) will be used and the virus model will be used is HSV-1.
One of my objective in this study is:
I would like to identify the proteins
1) produced from cells,
2) produced from cells when the cells infected with virus
3) produced from cells when the cells are treated with plant extract.
4) produced from cells when the cells infected with virus and treated with plant extract
these proteins from these conditions (1,2,3,4) have to send to LC-MS based proteomics to analyse the proteins.
So, my question is
a) May I know what should I do (protocol/ steps) before sending my sample to LC-MS based proteomics?
b) Can anyone suggest me a good, simple and inexpensive method to do the works?

Hi Jennifer Leong. It depends on the Proteomics lab that you are working with. I think you may ask them. Normally, Proteomics labs have all protocols and chemicals to treat your samples. If they aim to bottom-up proteomics, sample preparation steps include protein extraction, reduction, alkylation, digestion, and desalting prior to LC-MS/MS analysis. Please refer to your co-working lab for details.
