if NAAS rated Scopus indexed journals are good ? And if a journal is showing a NAAS RATING OF 6 what does it implicate about the standardity of the journal?
The NAAS score is relatively new (effective from Jan. 1 2018), and it centers mostly in the agricultural sciences in India. I think that Scopus score calculation must be different from that of NAAS, since it involves interdisciplinary fields of science in many countries.
For clarification of the NAAS calculations please see the next link:
NAAS rating is applicable only in India,. The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) recognized that many journals in agriculture and related disciplines in India do not come under the Impact Factor scheme of Clarivate Analyitcs. To measure the 'importance' of such journals, they came up with a scheme, wherein each journal is assessed, and its relative impotence is indicated by giving points out of a maximum of 20.
Before assigning points, NAAS first ascertain whether the journal has an ‘Impact Factor’ of Clarivate Analytics. For those journals where JIF is available, the scores are assigned as 6.00 + Impact Factor up to 20.00 (category I), and for those journals where JIF is not available, the rating is from 1 to 6.00 only (category II). In short, those journals having NAAS rating upto 6.00 will not have any impact factors!
Citescore ( a Scopus index) is a new metric introduced by Elsevier. Presently NAAS considers only Impact Factor of Clarivate Analytics for arriving at NAAS rating. Hopefully they will consider Citescore too in future to rate Indian journals.
Thank You Sir :) For such nice explanation ..Sir, Does Category II journals are not good journals in scientific research ? As they donot have Impact factor ..
Category II journals may not have the readership and quality as that of category I journals. Try to publish your papers in category I journals, if you feel that you have written well.
In India, Many Agricultural and Veterinary Universities do consider the NAAS rating for recruitment, promotion etc. Hence it is becoming very important now a days. Here is recent NAAS rating
Journals with above 6 NAAS rating means, those journals have impact factor in Clarivate analytics (almost most except few). Whereas the journals below 6 involve many predatory journals. Though in India they are accepted.
In Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, its mandatory for PG scholars to publish one research article from the Thesis research in a journal with NAAS > 6.0. And for Ph.D. scholars its two articles.
Recently, apart from NAAS score (.6.0), the JIF and Citescore are also considered.
