Our institute is in search of a new Phosphoimager. We currently have a Typhoon that no longer works. Can anyone give me a recommendation on what works well for them, or is the newest technology out there? We use it mostly for radioactivity detection, and need it to work over a broad dynamic range. It seems most systems out there require a 32-bit processor or windows XP, which has given us issues using our old system. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Currently we are using in our nuclear medicine department a cyclon phosphorimager (Perkin Elmer) which is very usefull for radiochemical purity quality controls (Thin layer chromatography) of radiopharmaceuticals (instead of a radiochromatograph) or preclinical biodistribution studies (semi quantitative autoradiography). We are using 2 old systems (12 years old) which not requires 32-bit or windows XP, those system are no longer available and the new system (link perkin below) require XP. We have no experience of other systems (link biocompare below), maybe someone else could help.

I can confirm the comment given by Franck Lacoeuille: the cyclon phosphorimager (Perkin Elmer) is a perfect tool providing a really wide dynamic range and suitable for very different kind of radiation, robust, flexible, reliable and fast.
Which Typhoon model do you have (e.g. 2000; 5000; 7000; 9500) and what stopped working? Was it something that couldn't be repaired? We have a Fuji BAS-5000 and a GE Typhoon FLA 7000 with the extra lasers. I have briefly used a Perkin Elmer as well.
Following up on Typhoon repairs: GE appears to have stopped servicing these, or offers to service at ridiculous costs. E.g. the blue laser on ours has died last week, and GE quoted 19K GBP for a new one. Knowing that these days a 488 line (with specs needed for a scanner) cannot possibly cost that much, can anyone recommend a workaround? I have once watched a (friendly and helpful) GE tech replace the 488 line, it was an OEM Melles Griot unit, with power, by eye, 25 mW max.
