I have observed many times that a journal paper have more downloads than a conference paper. The conference paper may be more technical revealing and informative than journal paper. Why is it so?
A journal paper went through a reviewing process by experts, and it is a reliable source. The conference paper went through a screening committee, but this does not promise that it will be included later in a formal journal. So, a journal paper is a safer source.

A conference paper cannot be equated with a journal paper on the subject. Scientists and research students are often attracted to conferences because of the lure of easy acceptance of their papers. Many ‘conference proceedings’ are normally not subjected to peer review, and because of any real quality control, ‘proceedings paper’ usually gets a low status.
By my understanding, most conference paper later modified to research paper after which it is criticize constructively. So people may want to go for the best.
So it seems that conferences have lost its credibility over the time. It may either be due to the increased frequency or high article processing charges. Thanks a lot to every one for your valuable inputs.
I think it is wrong to consider journal paper is better than conference paper because if the conference is ranked, it produces high-quality papers and the opposite if the journal is not good, it doesn't produce good papers
