Reaching a tenure track position in the humanities/social sciences?

What was the best advice you ever got for reaching a tenure track position in the humanities/social sciences?

And: what is the best way to get your research "out there"?

I was told to merge my research and teaching so that I do not have to put in separate time for research. I have tried it and it worked as I am on track with the number of publications (1.5) I am supposed to produce every year. I have also found RG to be a good medium for getting your research "out there", but try to also tell your students about your research as they would be more inclined to cite it in their work and theses.
