I would like to perform a series of EEG measurements to rats while they perform motor and cognitive tasks. The questions are:
1) Which tasks are you familiar with that Rats? tasks that takes longer then a few seconds to perform.
2) How can I compare the tasks to the "idle" Rat brain activity, what is the most "idle" activity a Rat is expected to perform without any chemical interventions.

If you want to study physiological activity in rats, you could firstly distinguish between sleep and wakefulness.
Secondly, during wakefulness in physiological conditions, you could notice different activities such as: 1) laying, 2) self-grooming, 3) rearing, 4) sniffing, 5) eating 6) drinking and so on.

Hi Yaron,
I have done local field potential recording in freely moving rats previously. We recorded under isoflurane anesthesia, while awake (after sitting in the cage calmly for a few minutes), and after drug administration. Then we compared the activity from each state.
