i have done raman spectroscopy for W-Ir alloy with 2.5vol % steric acid milled for different intervals of time (0,10,20,40)hrs, here is file attach below please help me how to interpret the results? means, how i could relate the spectra with particle size refinement and particle size distribution during milling, and explain the strain in samples with milling time as well ? or any other feature.
note that: in figure (a) 0hr milled, (b) 10hr miled, (c) 20hr milled, (d) 40hr milled
Hello Hussain,
You need to identify the characteristic peaks associated with chemical composition of W-ir alloy. Looks like there are only 4-5 peaks in your spectra. There is a spike in your spectrum (B) around 400 cm-1, it is not a Raman peak. One way to interpret your spectra is FWHM of the peak which is associated with crsytal size. can you help me further how to identify the peaks in above spectra. i have pure Tungsten and added 1.5 wt% Iridium .please help me i am using 1st time raman spectroscopy for alloy.

Like Mustafa said before, you need to identify a characteristic peak for your alloy (one of the four peaks in all spectra) or separate compounds. You should also re-run your scan for the plot in 'b' to get rid of the spike at ~400cm-1 or treat that data point as an outlier.
I see your y-axis shows data is normalized. What kind of normalization technique are you using? vector? range? Normalizing the entire spectral region to your characteristic peak will allow for direct comparison.
From the included graph, going by visual inspection only, the two ratio of peaks in figure 'a' around 700 and 850 cm-1 appear to be decreasing from 'a' through to 'd'. I think this "duplet" effect may be as a result of your two metals in the alloy - you should research more in the literature. I bet if you re-scan and re-plot figure 'b' without the observed cosmic spike, this trend may be more evident.
