It could be that the name you've chosen for the variable in question does not appear in the data set that you have pointed AMOS to use. Alternatively, could you possibly have used that name as a (latent) variable elsewhere in your model?
Sorry to be vague, but without knowing the model, your variable list, and your specification (either via graphic display or visual basic), it's a bit of a guessing game.
The best practice for creating path diagrams in AMOS is to add a distinctive alphabet such as 'a' in addition to the variable original name. If this additional 'a' is part of any other variable code then try using Cap 'A' or another alphabet such as 'x'.
