I am looking for a simple protocol for Quantitative measurement of beta-lactamase without using the Nitrocefin in Gram-negative bacteria.
You can use the assay method by spectrometry using nitrocefin as a substrate, or share iodometry using benzylpenicillin .
You can do a spectrophotometric assay using any beta-lactam antibiotic instead of nitrocefin. The advantage of nitrocefin is that it absorbs in the visible light spectrum (480nm) whereas for the other antibiotics you need to measure in the UV spectrum.
