Hi,

I am looking for a metric to use to quantify turbulence in a gravel-bed reach. I have recorded instantaneous point velocities at 1 second intervals with an ultrasonic sensor, so there is no backscatter data or anything like that available, only streamwise velocity. Is there a way I can use this data to look at the temporal changes in velocity to derive turbulence? For example could I look at the variation over a certain timeframe? What would the standard timeframe be and why? How would I calculate the variance?

Thanks
