Many young scholars struggle hard to find a good research supervisor. It is extremely important for each scholar to have an excellent supervisor. it is often noticed that many outstanding scholars at the entry level become less productive at a later stage due to lack of proper supervision/guidance by the concerned supervisor. So then the important question is who is a good supervisor? What are the essential qualities of a supervisor?
That's a very interesting question. In my point of view, a good supervisor should encourage the student development by punctually aggregating with research. A good supervisor should not choose the subject for the student, for example, but assist him or her in this process. By advising and encouraging the development of student's critical thinking, the supervisor assists in the student transformation process into a real researcher.

A good supervisor should direct and supervise the student in the construction and development of his study, encompassing the stages of research, analysis, discussion of results and writing of thesis and articles. A very important point is that the supervisor should strive for a balance between dependence and independence in guidance in order to avoid extremes and create a synergistic environment of application and knowledge exchange that leads to increased cognitive ability and critical analysis of the student.

It is most important to pursue Ph. D. degree under a good supervisor. Though it is difficult to define a good supervisor, in my opinion a good supervisor should be enthusiastic towards the researcher's work, he should be positive, motivational and committed towards research, he should give regular and timely feedback on research project and he should have complete understanding about the requirements and time factor to complete the thesis.
