For the selection of various high positions in academic administration, these two criteria are given maximum importance. Do you think that these two criteria along with some teaching experience will help a person to establish himself as a successful academic administrator?

If the answer is: ‘it may be’ or ‘it may not be‘, then why so much of emphasis is given on those two criteria. Are there any other more reliable criteria to make the selection more accurate and dependable?
No criteria in private universities.
All rules mixed up.
Depend of situation.
Good researchers who become administrators tend to do what they are best at, so they keep their heads in their research and everyone else help to run the department, especially their secretaries and other Admin Assts. It's the same for good teachers who become administrators, they hold everybody else to a high standard of teaching, but they do not work at their same high standard in managing the department. It is really a balancing act, and where there's inequity, everybody else fills this gap to run the department. At worse, when administrators fail to do their jobs, they shift this failure by showing up others as failures thru their assessment of staff. In other words, the department is failing because the faculty and staff are failing at their duties and responsibilities.
