I am conducting a qualitative study on SMME mentorship, through the use of semi-structured interviews. I am trying to establish what would be the best way to analyse the interviews i.e. content or thematic analysis. What is the preferred manner for interviews ?

I used the framework method as in Qualitative Research Practice, Ritchie and Lewis when I carried out semi-structured interviews. The link below if for the 2003 version that I used then, but newer editions are now available.

It is not a computer assisted method, but I did use the computer to search for key words in my transcriptions.
I have added small sections of my theses it describe my use of 'framework', but basically, I was using grounded theory and started with open coding. I used the framework method to bring together similarly coded sections spreadsheet format.

At some point, qualitative content analysis, framework analysis, and thematic analysis all run together. In essence, the core of what they each do (coding data and summarizing the interpretation of that coding) is what qualitative researchers have always done. Thomas (2006) called this a "General Inductive Approach."
If you plan to summarize your results as a set of themes, then I would recommend doing thematic analysis, since it is by far the most widely recognized of these methods.
