Absolutely. In fact the history is actually the other way around. Social sciences were using a variety of phenomenological, grounded theory, individual interviews, focus groups, ethnography, conversation analysis...all forms of inductive qualitative research. When these methods were imported into health research, in oder to strengthen its "validity" in the health sciences, they came to be called "Qualitative Descriptive Study" among other things.

Anyway, such research is used in everything from Communication, Psychology, Business & Organizational Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Gender studies, etc.

Hi Saira, I read with interest, your initial question and the responses that you have received. Have you heard of "Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis?" It's an approach to doing data analysis that was developed at the University of Birkbeck, UK by a team of health psychologists led by Jonathan Smith. It's a turnkey method of deconstructing data and making sense of what can otherwise feel quite disjointed. I deployed it in my own doctoral study and have helped many other students, including one that I am currently coaching at your university in Peshawar.
