I am new to QCA and am using csQCA to explore paths to an outcome in a sample between 30 and 50. After conducting necessity analyses for the individual conditions and the outcome, then the outcome complement, I have found a couple of conditions that meet the necessity criteria for both the outcome and the complement.
My understanding is that this is a logical fallacy, that one condition cannot be both in the set out the outcome and the set of the ~outcome. I am thinking perhaps the conditions are mis-specified. Are there other reasons why this might occur?

I am not sure if you are still looking for an answer, but here is my take:
It is in fact possible to have a necessary condition for both presence and absence of an outcome if that condition is present throughout (most) of your dataset. Did you check the distribution of the variable that produces the result? I would assume that this condition is 1 for almost all cases, regardless of whether the outcome occurs or not. It would then be an irrelevant necessary condition (as the famous example of air being a necessary condition to start a fire).
