I am performing some Py-GC/MS experiments on raw wood samples at 800C and analyzing the pyrolysates using an HP-5ms column and a single quad MS. I can identify BTEXS and naphthalene in my results, however, I do not see BAP. What could be the reason for this?
Mahsa.... the 800 C is considerably high regarding organic compounds. Thus your experimental conditions may have destroyed the benzopyrene. I suggest the application of Pyrolysis temperatures in the range 450to 550 to ensure better results.... Good luck
Thank you Mahmood M. Barbooti . We are trying to simulate a real fire condition and that's why we use such high temperatures. It is interesting that you suggest BAP may be decomposed at these temperatures. I will definitely look into it and test at lower temps. Thanks!
Mahsa..... Fire conditions involve not only thermal decomposition but combustion. Thus Py-GC experiment may not be used to account for fire condition.
