Is the pursuit of ideal build an addiction? Do you believe that if someone goes to gym regularly at some point will be satisfied with the result or will always find something else in body build to improve?
Ideals can never be met. They are a mental construct similar to perfection that one can only endlessly strive for but can never fully achieve. One's personal relationship to their ideal is what will impact their general mental health and wellbeing. Psychological flexibility and an adaptive view of values is crucial, even as it applies to physical wellness and appearance. Addictions involve preoccupation and repetitive patterns of engagement in a behavior despite distress and dysfunction. I would think that it is perhaps not the pursuit of the ideal per se that is an addiction but the narrow, obsessive frame of mind that may result from it and the tendency to ignore other important life domains as a consequence.
