why do we use negative selection marker genes in transgenic plants as they won't survive?
and can we grow transgenic cells by negative selection?
Negative selectable markers allow the repression or ablation of transgenic cells.

thanks for listing our paper ("Less is more,...."). One example of using Positive selection and Negative selection markers together was listed in the attached image, to speed up selection process and remove unwanted transgenic plants (or transgene(s)).

2. Negative selection: plants harboring the NSMG will die under selection.
PSMG=positive selectable marker gene; NSMG=negative selection marker gene
