I am synthesizing CdSe quantum dots using oleic acid and octadecene, synthesis is perfect with CdO being colorless within 20 minutes in the presence of octadecne and oleic acid and then is the perfect formation of different colored dots.
However the problem arises in purification, I used to purify using ethanol and did not get a solid dots pellet even after 7-10X purification of dots with ethanol.They remain suspended in ethanol...
I have to coat ZnS shell for biological applicaitons. Can anyone help me figure this out as is it okay if they remain ethanol suspended or is there any way to suspend them in toluene? Your suggestions will be most welcome.

I agree with Jon, just try different solvents that you access in your lab.
Thanku Jon Ashley. I used 3000 rpm. But one time I tried at 5000 rpm also but still the same aqueous phase. I guess this could be because of Ethanol. I will try with IPA and at 5000rpm
IPA has higher viscosity than ethanol. Having an idea about size and effective density you may calculate time needed. Of course rpm is not directly related. For calculation you need to know (calculate) acceleration. Accordingly you may select solvents for their effect on density difference and viscosity. Be aware that prepared quantum dots are not stable in all solvents. Avoid e.g. too high polarity. Toluene might work.
Thansk Titus Sobisch. But they are soluble in toluene. So can't use toluene for separation.
